New Delhi: Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah on Friday addressed a rally in Assam’s Kamrup district. He maintained complete silence on CAA and NRC amid growing public outrage against them in Assam. He chose to speak about ”love jihad” and ”land jihad” instead.
”The BJP’s manifesto has several items. But the biggest among them is that the BJP government will work towards bringing in laws against love and land jihad,” Shah was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Love jihad and land jihad refers to conspiracy theories propagated by extremists Hindu groups. They allege that Muslims are up for grabbing land and also that Muslim men entice Hindu women into love to convert them to Islam.
He attacked Badruddin Ajmal Ajmal, whose party, the AIUDF, enjoys a large support base amongst the state’s Bengali-origin migrant community, and says if the Congress-AIUDF alliance comes to power then infiltration will be encouraged.
Shah added, “Congress leaders are coming as tourists now to Assam. Rahul baba had come.He gave a statement that Badruddin Ajmal is Assam’s identity. Tell me — can Badruddin Ajmal ever be the identity of Assam?”
BJP leaders have made deliberate attempts to further communal divide between Hindu and Muslim communities. They have been speaking against Mr. Ajmal in Assam. However, the Congress party has defended him saying that he only talks about welfare of Muslims and does not hate Hindu or any other community.
