Thousands of Muslims protest against Waseem Rizvi, demand his arrest

Prominent Shia cleric Kalbe Jawad Naqvi and Supreme Court advocate Mehmood Pracha gave call for a bigger protest at New Delhi’s Jama Masjid after Friday prayers on 19 March 2021.

New Delhi/Lucknow: Thousands of Muslims on Sunday held a protest at the Bada Imambara in Lucknow against former Shia Waqf Board chief Waseem Rizvi for his dubious remarks against the Holy Quran and his decision to file a plea in the Supreme Court seeking removal of 26 verses of the book.

Sunni and Shia clerics led the protest against Rizvi and demanded his immediate arrest.

Maulana Kalbe Jawad Naqvi said that if authorities fail to arrest Rizvi then it would be known to the world that the current government is behind the ”terrorist, anti-national” activities of Waseem Rizvi.

Mr Naqvi and Supreme Court advocate Mehmood Pracha gave call for a bigger protest at New Delhi’s Jama Masjid after Friday prayers on 19 March 2021.

Unprecedented security arrangements had been made in the old city on Sunday in view of the protests.

Barricades were set up from the Chhota Imambara to the Teele Wali Masjid and a strong police presence was evident at the spot.
