New Delhi: Two former judges of the Kerala High Court Justices (retd.) PN Ravindran and V Chitambaresh on Sunday joined BJP in presence of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Kochi. 18 others including several Mahila Congress workers joined the right-wing party on the occasion.
Justice Ravindran served as a Judge of the Kerala High Court from 2007 to 2018. Justice Chitambaresh was elevated to the High Court in 2011 and served as a High Court judge until 2019, when he retired.
”I have been a fellow traveller of the BJP. Now, I have officially embraced the party. I couldn’t attend the function in Kochi as I am in Delhi,” Chitambaresh said while speaking to The New Indian Express.
He had drawn some controversy months before his retirement. Addressing the Tamil Brahmin’s Global Meet he called on the Brahmin community to agitate for economic reservation, rather than caste or communal reservation. He said that the Brahmin community is not vocal enough in pressing for its demands.
Among the others who joined the partry are former DGP Venugopal Nair, Admiral B R Menon and former general manager of BPCL Somachoodan. ”Former Mahila Congress worker Shiji Roy along with 12 other Congress workers also joined BJP,” said a statement by BJP spokesperson here.
