Since past a few years, Maharashtra is experiencing a big social change as Muslims are participating in Shiv Jayanti Celebrations in a large number.

Every year on February 19, the birth anniversary of King Shivaji is observed as Shiv Jayanti. History has revealed that Maratha King Shivaji was loved and respected by Muslims during his reign.

State President of Chhtrapati Shivaji Muslim Brigade Akif Dafedar said, “When we look at the history of Shivaji Maharaj, it clearly appears that he was a secular Maratha king. He never hurt Muslims or tried to defame Islam… In fact, nearly about 30% of his soldiers including 11 personal bodyguards were Muslims.”

Due to Covid-19 containment guidelines, huge rallies couldn’t be organised but people visited the statue of Chatrapati to pay their tribute to him. Lectures were organised at many places on the occasion, said Osmanabad based activist Hafiz Aleem  and  Adv Feroz Khan (Ausa).

In Solapur city, activists associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Muslim Brigade came forward to celebrate the Shiv Jayanti. Dozens of Muslim women also registered their presence to show their respect towards the Maratha King.

Other cities of the state, Osmanabad, Mumbai ,Shriram pur ,Tuljapur,Sangli and Ausa etc witnessed involvement of Muslims in the event.

Shivaji Maharaj had given very important responsibilities to his Muslim commanders and they were all very loyal to Maharaj, said Mateen Bagban, city president of Chhatrapati Shivaji Muslim Brigade, Solapur. History says that  Maharaja is our own, and we will be giving respect to this great soul, Mateen added.

Speaking to Muslim Mirror, Maratha activist Shyam Kadam expressed his happiness over the development. He informed that credit for this historical change goes to Maratha Seva Sangh’s efforts and  the literary work of Govind Pansare, authors of Marathi book ‘Shivaji Kon Hota’, Prem Hanvate who authored ‘Shivaji Maharajanche Muslim Sipe Salar’ along with Advocate Gaziuddin who did the Urdu translation of Shivaji Kon Hota etc. Kadam further appreciated Sambhaji Brigade and Chhatrapati Shivaji Muslim Brigade for coming up with the real history of great personalities and spreading brotherhood.
